Russian Hill is a perfect example of a new generation of wine lovers-turned-winemakers who injected a welcomed new energy into numerous parts of the California wine industry in the 1990s.
The owners have been involved in the wine industry for quite some
time; Patrick Melley worked for an important chain of restaurants on the east coast before his move to California.
But the love of anything "vino"
pushed them to the production side at the end of the 1980's. Their decision to purchase the estate in the mid-1990's was motivated by the knowledge of the high quality potential of this part of the Russian River Valley. Indeed, the winery and vineyards are located in the heart of the Russian River Valley, next to the famous Saralee's Vineyard and Sonoma-Cutrer Winery.
The winemaking style at Russian Hill, under the direction of Patrick ... tends more towards creating extracted but balanced Pinot Noirs and Syrahs.
I particularly enjoyed the Syrahs for their complexity and friendliness. Another surprise was the dry Rose from Pinot Noir, produced in small quantity, and produced in a small quantity, and is the perfect friend for a
warm summer night.
The main attraction when visiting the winery is its higher
elevation; the tasting room terrace offers a stunning 180 degree view of the bucolic Russian River Valley.
from the tasting room terrace.
Do not forget to bring your picnic to
